Masisa Chile has been awarded the prize “Leaders for a living planet”
This is the first time a Chilean company has been awarded a prize like this one, a remarkable acknowledgement for the company´s commitment with the environment.
During the meeting called “Integrated Conservation of Land Coast-Sea Environments” organized by World Wildlife Fund International (WWF) in Chile, Masisa Chile was given the prize “Leaders for a Living Planet” which is aimed at different conservation initiatives.
The prize, given in Chile for the first time, acknowledged Masisa as fulfilling its commitment towards strentghening the system of certification FSC in Chile, and as identifying forests with a high value for conservation and creating a portfolio of protected areas.
María Emilia Correa, who is the Social and Environmental Responsibility Manager , stated that this award “is a clear indication that we are acting in a responsible way towards the context the company operates in. Sustainable development is not an abstract idea; quite the contrary, it is a way to do business”.
“We believe economic growth goes hand in hand with the impact caused by our actions in the social and environmental contexts. These actions should always aim at producing economic value for the company since our objective is to create value for our shareholders who are both, positive actors in the community and contributors to improve the lifestyle of people in all fields.”, María Emilia added.
Claudio Caro of Masisa Chile, who was given the prize on behalf of the company, highlighted the importance of the company management in the forestry field. The conservation of native areas is the cornerstone of Masisa.
Masisa owns forests extending throughout Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Venenzuela which make up 367.318 hectares of land, out of which 243.235 are forest plantations.
